Nurses spend more time with patients who Are facing the end-of-life issue than any other member of the health team. Studies have shown that many nurses feel inadequately prepared to provide the comprehensive/palliative care that is so important during this crucial time. Realizing this need, the Adelphi University School of Nursing is offering the ELNEC-Core Training program. The goal of this training program is to provide RNs with the knowledge necessary to enhance their comfort level in end-of-life care. The curriculum contains the essential modules addressing the critical aspects of the end-of-life and palliative care. If you are currently working in Homecare, Med/Surg, CCU, ICU, ED, Burn or Trauma unit, you do not want to miss this opportunity to attend this course.

Nancy Cole, MS, RNC
Besides serving as the Assistant Dean for the Adelphi University School of Nursing, Nancy Cole also serves as Director of Nursing for Gift of Life International, a philanthropic organization that provides cardiac surgery and post-operative care to children from under-developed countries. Dean Cole was previously the Director of Academic Programs at the College of New Rochelle School of Nursing, and Associate Executive Director for two major divisions of the Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn & Queens, Inc.

She holds a Master's from Adelphi University, and a B.S. from Boston College. Dean Cole also has ANA certification in Continuing Education and Staff Development, and is a certified CCNE trainer in end-of -life curriculum.

Maggie Silver, R.N., Ed.M
Maggie Silver is an RN and a Nurse Practitioner specializing in the area of Psychiatric Mental Heath Nursing and Gerontology. She is a full time faculty member in the School of Nursing at Adelphi and the Director of the RN to BS ASCEND program in the School of Nursing. Professor Silver is a certified ELNEC trainer and also maintains a private practice in Psychiatric/Geriatric Case Management. She is a consultant in the Eldercare field conducting much training for all levels of health care workers. In addition, Ms. Silver was the co-manager of a Mobile Crisis/Outreach Team with the Catholic Charities Mental Health programs of Brooklyn and Queens for 14 years.

Nancy Balkon, Ph.D., ANP-C, APRN-CS, NPP
In addition to her Ph.D. in nursing and clinical Credentials as an Adult Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Balkon, has earned a Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Clinical Pharmacology. She is an elected member of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology.
