Nurse administrators are integral members of administrative teams within health service organizations and are competing for leadership positions with individuals from non-nursing backgrounds. Their responsibilities have grown in the areas of long-range strategic and financial planning, resource management, implementation of outcomes-based approaches to quality patient care, institutional governance, and management of multiple departments. This combined program with the School of and the School of Business allows the registered nurse holding a bachelor's degree to complete the Master of Science in nursing and the Master of Business Administration. The program incorporates contemporary management theory, business fundamentals and essential core competencies, and knowledge, skills and values of advanced professional nursing practice. The objective of this joint degree program is to prepare leaders who facilitate and embody the competencies required to help transform health service organizations and health systems as a whole.


Admission Requirements
Admission criteria include:
- Current licensure as a registered professional nurse
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in nursing from a professionally accredited program or a non-nursing baccalaureate degree plus a passing score on the NLN baccalaureate comprehensive achievement test
- Completion of a basic statistics course with a grade of B or better
- Minimum of two years nursing practice with one year in nursing service administration
- Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
- Grade-point average of 3.0 (B)
- Two letters of recommendation from recent employers
- Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) results
- Statement of personal objectives
- International applicants must have obtained a minimum score of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) within the last two years, a declaration and certificate of finances, and certified English translations of all prior academic records.
