Course Objectives
NUR 498: Professionalism in the Provision of Holistic Care
Upon completion of this course, the student is able to:
- synthesize knowledge from nursing, humanities, sciences, and the arts as a basis for a personal philosophy of professional nursing.
- incorporate human caring and respect for the uniqueness of human beings and their cultural diversity into professional nursing practice.
- analyze the image of nursing in society and the effect of this image on professional nursing practice.
- evaluate the impact of economic, social, and political issues on the delivery of holistic health care.
- examine the modern role of nursing in relation to present and future delivery of holistic health care.
- evaluate concepts of effective nursing leadership and management in the delivery of holistic health care.
- demonstrate professional role behaviors that are guided by ethical principles and standards of practice.
- develop the skills and career planning perspective necessary for entry into professional nursing practice.
- examine nursing's role in quality management, quality improvement, risk management and utilization management.
Clinical Objectives:
- Apply, integrate, and evaluate knowledge related to the care of clients within a nursing sub-specialty.
- Develop competencies for an entry level of practice in professional nursing.
- Exhibit personal growth through increased self-awareness and an understanding of human diversity (clients, peers, and aging personal).
- Demonstrate critical thinking skills in clinical practice.
- Demonstrate the ability to record appropriate and accurate documentation.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary health care team.
- Utilize appropriate therapeutic communication skills in interpersonal relationships.
