Course Objectives
NUR 498: Professionalism in the Provision of Holistic Care
Upon completion of this course, the student is able to:
  1. synthesize knowledge from nursing, humanities, sciences, and the arts as a basis for a personal philosophy of professional nursing.
  2. incorporate human caring and respect for the uniqueness of human beings and their cultural diversity into professional nursing practice.
  3. analyze the image of nursing in society and the effect of this image on professional nursing practice.
  4. evaluate the impact of economic, social, and political issues on the delivery of holistic health care.
  5. examine the modern role of nursing in relation to present and future delivery of holistic health care.
  6. evaluate concepts of effective nursing leadership and management in the delivery of holistic health care.
  7. demonstrate professional role behaviors that are guided by ethical principles and standards of practice.
  8. develop the skills and career planning perspective necessary for entry into professional nursing practice.
  9. examine nursing's role in quality management, quality improvement, risk management and utilization management.

Clinical Objectives:
  1. Apply, integrate, and evaluate knowledge related to the care of clients within a nursing sub-specialty.
  2. Develop competencies for an entry level of practice in professional nursing.
  3. Exhibit personal growth through increased self-awareness and an understanding of human diversity (clients, peers, and aging personal).
  4. Demonstrate critical thinking skills in clinical practice.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to record appropriate and accurate documentation.
  6. Collaborate with interdisciplinary health care team.
  7. Utilize appropriate therapeutic communication skills in interpersonal relationships.
