Course Objectives
NUR 485: Alterations in Mental Health: A Holistic Approach (Clinical)
Upon completion of this course, the student is able to:
  1. develop a body of knowledge about mental illness that will form a holistic framework for psychiatric-mental health nursing practice.
  2. utilize methods of inquiry, critical thinking, nursing informatics, and other resources to deliver holistic health care to mentally ill clients and their families.
  3. use nursing process to support optimal well-being of mentally ill clients and their families.
  4. pursue self-directed learning and growth in intellectual curiosity.
  5. demonstrate the values of caring and the uniqueness of the person when interacting with clients, peers, and mental health team members.
  6. provide culturally congruent nursing care for mentally ill clients and their families.
  7. explore age-related mental illness problems and issues.
  8. demonstrate professional role behaviors, guided by ethical principles and psychiatric-mental health clinical standards of practice.
  9. explore and integrate current acceptable practice and research into holistic health care for mentally ill clients and their families.
  10. collaborate and communicate effectively with mentally ill clients and their families, peers, and mental health team members.
  11. demonstrate personal awareness and professional growth.
