Course Objectives
NUR 314: Family/Group/Community Assessment
Upon completion of this course, the student is able to:
  1. discuss the dynamic interrelationship between man and environment as determinants of health.
  2. articulate the conceptual model of the natural history of disease.
  3. apply health statistics data to the diagnosis of community health problems.
  4. describe epidemiological principles related to selected health problems in nursing practice at all three levels of prevention.
  5. conduct and document a holistic nursing assessment, based on knowledge of systems theory for a family, group, and a community.
  6. interpret assessment data to identify health strengths/risks and problems in client's experiencing a crisis situation.
  7. describe the cultural patterns of aggregates coping with daily living stress and crisis situations.
  8. describe principles of collaboration, between consumers and providers of health care in assessing need for health services and health resources.
  9. define managed care models and describe the nursing role in managed care.
  10. describe ethical, legal and economical aspects of managed care in today's society.
