Course Objectives
NUR 295: Introducation to Holistic Clinical Practice
Upon completion of this course, the student is able to:
  1. explain how professional standards influence a nurse's clinical decisions.
  2. discuss the relationship between the nursing process and critical thinking.
  3. differentiate between medical and nursing diagnoses.
  4. describe the roles of the professional nurse.
  5. discuss client advocacy.
  6. describe the legal responsibilities and obligations of nurses.
  7. list sources for standards of care for nurses.
  8. describe guidelines for documentation and reporting and identify computerized applications for documentation.
  9. describe the signs and symptoms of a localized or systemic infection.
  10. identify clients at risk of acquiring an infection.
  11. correctly perform isolation barrier techniques, medical and surgical asepsis.
  12. describe the inflammatory response.
  13. describe nursing interventions designed to break each link in the infection chain.
  14. correctly calculate prescribed medication doses.
  15. correctly and safely prepare and administer sub-q, im, iv, intradermal, oral, topical eye, ear, nose, vagina, rectal, and inhalant medications.
  16. develop a nursing care plan for clients whose safety is threatened.
  17. describe nursing interventions to maintain or restore cardiopulmonary function.
  18. develop a nursing care plan to improve a client's sleep pattern.
  19. develop a nursing care plan to improve a client's comfort.
  20. describe the procedure for initiating and maintaining tube feedings.
