NUR 295: Introducation to Holistic Clinical Practice
Upon completion of this course, the student is able to:
- explain how professional standards influence a nurse's clinical decisions.
- discuss the relationship between the nursing process and critical thinking.
- differentiate between medical and nursing diagnoses.
- describe the roles of the professional nurse.
- discuss client advocacy.
- describe the legal responsibilities and obligations of nurses.
- list sources for standards of care for nurses.
- describe guidelines for documentation and reporting and identify computerized applications for documentation.
- describe the signs and symptoms of a localized or systemic infection.
- identify clients at risk of acquiring an infection.
- correctly perform isolation barrier techniques, medical and surgical asepsis.
- describe the inflammatory response.
- describe nursing interventions designed to break each link in the infection chain.
- correctly calculate prescribed medication doses.
- correctly and safely prepare and administer sub-q, im, iv, intradermal, oral, topical eye, ear, nose, vagina, rectal, and inhalant medications.
- develop a nursing care plan for clients whose safety is threatened.
- describe nursing interventions to maintain or restore cardiopulmonary function.
